Milburn Stone Wiki Biography

Hugh Milburn “Milly” Stone was born on 5 July 1904, in Harvey County, Kansas USA, and was an actor, probably best known for his work in the CBS western television show entitled “Gunsmoke”, in which he played Dr. Galen “Doc” Adams. He was active in the industry from 1919 up to his death in 1980. All of his efforts helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Milburn Stone? As of late-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $500,000, mostly earned through a successful career in acting. He also did various film and radio work over the course of his career. These achievements ensured the position of his wealth during his time.

Milburn Stone Net Worth $500,000

Milburn attended Burrton High School and during his time there, played basketball. He was also active in the school’s drama club and sang in a barbershop quartet. He was given a congressional appointment to the US Naval Academy, but turned it down to pursue a career in acting.

Stone then made his stage debut in 1919, later venturing into vaudeville including various song and dance acts. In the 1930s, he began appearing in Broadway shows such as “Jayhawker” and “Around the Corner”. He then moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting on the big screen, appearing in films such as “Chasing Trouble” and “Colorado”, in which he played Roy Rogers’ brother gone wrong. In 1939, he appeared in “Blackwell’s Island” in an uncredited role before being cast in “Gung Ho!” and “Prison Mutiny” both of which were released in 1943. He signed a contract with Universal Pictures to become a part of “Sherlock Holmes Faces Death” and “Jungle Woman”, then had a starring role in 1945’s “Master Key” before getting a featured role in “The Frozen Ghost”.

His net worth started to increase significantly with numerous projects coming his way.

In 1955, Milburn then joined the television adaptation of the Western series “Gunsmoke”, in which he played Doc Adams. He stayed with the show for its entire run spanning two decades, appearing in a total of 604 episodes alongside James Arness, Dennis Weaver, Ken Curtis and Howard McNear, and which raised his net worth even further.

Thanks to his success, he was given numerous honors throughout his career, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Drama thanks to his performance in “Gunsmoke”. He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was also posthumously inducted into the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s Western Performers Hall of Fame.

For his personal life, it is known that Milburn married Ellen Morrison in 1925 and their marriage lasted until her death in 1937; they had a daughter. Two years later, he married Jane Garrison but their marriage only lasted for a year, however, they re-married in 1941, and remained so until Milburn’s death. In 1971, Milburn underwent heart bypass surgery, but nine years later, he suffered a heart attack and passed away. He was survived by Jane Garrison and his daughter.
